North Leyton
This Leyton home is the epitome of understated style that effortlessly mixes old and new, monochrome and colour, and offers a key lesson in less is more.
The mid-century design of the space centred around two things; a three-metre table for visitors to congregate around, and drawing inspiration from the dark cabinet fronts from Alison Lloyd, the designer of Ally Capellino home.
No part of the kitchen was unnecessarily wasted either; the cherry larder shelves are offcuts from the fronts, and the main kitchen shelves are leftover from the quartz worktop – as well as the butler sink and accessories salvaged locally or bought second hand. This resourcefulness adds a truly unique style to this family kitchen, which is immediately welcoming and warm.
This space works well due to the client’s realisation of what a kitchen really needs (even when there is space for more): a well stocked accessible larder and a large social table harks back to a country kitchen vibe… all in Zone 3.
