Frequently asked questions

Planning a kitchen renovation can be a daunting task. Below is a selection of real life questions we get asked daily, hopefully they provide the answers you may be looking for. If not, please do pick up the phone or drop us an email to hello@holte.studio and we’ll guide you through anything you are unsure of.

Whether you’re looking for a cost-efficient route to a premium finish or a fully tailor-made solution, HØLTE offers the highest quality materials and precision-cut joinery to suit your space, circumstances and budget.

If you’re looking to spend less without cutting corners, combining HØLTE bespoke fronts with IKEA or Howdens kitchen cabinetry can deliver the high-end benefits of bespoke joinery at a fraction of the cost.

Alternatively, the HØLTE bespoke cabinetry system and in-house joinery design provide a fully tailor-made solution, bringing together premium aesthetics with sophisticated functionality.

Most of our customers mix and match between these two systems, ensuring their budgets are spent where they really matter.

Do you know you will be ordering IKEA or Howdens cabinets, but don’t have plans yet?

The fastest way to proceed from here is to book in an appointment with the cabinetry supplier to finalise the layout of your kitchen. They will then provide plans and elevations of your design that we can quote from. Pop in to see us at this point, or book an online consultation, and we can discuss the materials and colours that would work for you. Once all is decided, we will provide a quote for your kitchen and if you’re happy – we can get going with production. If you would like us to design your layout, give us a call or book an appointment and we can talk you through the next steps.

Would you like HØLTE to design your kitchen?

IKEA & Howdens offer great, free design services, but if you are looking to utilise HØLTE’s years of experience in design-led kitchens, we offer a comprehensive kitchen design service that helps you realise your ideas and get the most out of your space. Head to our Services page to find out more.

Do you have your layout already?

You may already have your plans from your architect or cabinetry supplier, in which case we always advise having a chat with one of our designers before placing your order. This can either be at our studio in Hackney or online. Our design team will discuss your preferred materials and their benefits, as well as answer any questions you might have about the process. Once you’re happy, we will provide a final quotation and finalise everything for production.

Unsure which cabinetry you would like to use, interested in HØLTE bespoke cabinetry or just exploring your options at this stage?

Come in and see us! We offer free consultations at our studio in Hackney or online, and our design team are on hand to walk you through the options and next steps, no matter the size or timeline of your project.

We work from site dimensions supplied by you, your on-site team or your architect. If you are undergoing a renovation you will usually have plans to hand but if not, we advise appointing a local kitchen fitter or carpenter. Please see our measuring guide for more information on how to measure your space.

If there is anything you are unsure of, give us a call and we’ll be happy to advise. If you have opted for our design service, a site survey can be included as a bolt-on if your project is within London.

We are currently supply only. Any reputable kitchen installer with experience of IKEA or Howdens kitchens will have no trouble installing our doors, drawer fronts and other panels on their cabinets. Our bespoke cabinetry is delivered pre-built with the internals already fitted, making installation a breeze. We provide detailed plans and elevations to hand over to your fitter pre-install and are on hand to assist with any questions they may have during the installation.

We can provide a quotation for installation within London if all cabinetry is from the HØLTE bespoke range, please get in touch for more information.

We offer a range of worktops; Varying thicknesses of stainless steel, a huge range of quartz from Caesterstone and other suppliers, responsilby sourced European granite and Marmoreal terrazzo by Dzek. If placing an order for worktops through us, we take care of the whole process from templating to installation.

Once we have delivered your kitchen, we will come back to template the worktops once your kitchen cabinetry and fronts have been installed. From here, and depending on your chosen worktop material, the worktops usually take about 2 weeks to fabricate before we return to complete the installation.

Please note, worktops can only be ordered as part of a wider kitchen project and we can only currently offer worktops within 100 miles of London. If your project is outside of this area, not to worry – any local stone fabricator will be able to help you with your worktop installation to complete your HØLTE kitchen.

If your kitchen layout has been designed by IKEA or Howdens, once you’re happy with the design you will place your order with your chosen retailer. They will be able to guide you through the process – just let them know you are buying your doors, drawer fronts, side panels, cover panels, plinths and fillers elsewhere and they will remove these from your order.

If you have chosen to work with us to design your kitchen, as part of our design service we will put together an IKEA shopping list for you to take to IKEA and order.

We do! We can supply doors, drawer fronts and all other panels to any size you require. The main difference is that we will not be able to supply our panels with hinge pockets if they are to be fitted to cabinetry other than IKEA, Howdens or HØLTE cabinetry. The hinge holes will need to be cut out by your fitter during the installation. Get in touch with your sizes or even better, your plans, and we can take it from there.

Our pricing guide has a breakdown of costs for 3 different sizes of kitchen. Costs can vary depending on a number of factors such as the size of the kitchen, panel materials chosen, the number of drawers vs. doors and the handle and worktop choices, but this guide should give you an idea as a starting point. Select a cabinetry option, drawers option, fronts material, handle style and a worktop option to arrive at your ballpark price.

A ‘small’, single-run kitchen will start at approx. £8,000 including IKEA cabinetry and drawers, HØLTE fronts, physical handles and a quartz worktop. Fitting and appliances would be additional. To give you an idea of the variation, the same specification in a ‘large’ space would start at approximately £18,000.

Samples can be ordered from our online shop for £15. This includes a sample panel of your chosen style, plus either 3 laminate colour samples or 3 veneer species leaves. We hate to see samples go to waste, so once you have placed your order for your HØLTE kitchen, return your samples to us and we will refund you for them.

We have a fully functional HØLTE kitchen in our studio in Hackney. Come and see us! We’re just off Broadway Market, overlooking the canal.

We are appointment only as we have limited space, appointment bookings can be made via our website.

We do! We offer a kitchen design service and can plan your space using IKEA cabinetry, bespoke HØLTE cabinetry, or a combination of the two. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer this service to clients using Howdens cabinetry.

We can also offer bespoke design services if you are looking for our input on a wider joinery package.

We can also supply joinery in other areas of your project beyond the kitchen. Not only will this mean you can achieve a cohesive finish across all areas of your renovation, but our designers can also advise on using HØLTE fronts in combination with IKEA storage systems in other areas of the home too.

We supply both BORA cooking systems and Quooker hot taps. At present, we do not supply any other appliances. Wherever you are purchasing your appliances from, whether it be IKEA, Howdens or otherwise, send us the manuals so that we can double-check that they integrate into your design.

We supply a variety of great handle options from two UK-based manufacturers; Swarf Hardware and Armac Martin.

If you purchase handles from either of these manufacturers through HØLTE, we can offer a 10% discount and will supply your panels with handle drill-outs ready for an easy installation.

Should you wish to source your own handles, no problem! Just let us know and we will supply your panels ‘blank’, the drill-outs will need to be done on site by your installer.

We only supply hinges and drawer runners if you are purchasing bespoke HØLTE cabinetry. If you are ordering cabinetry from IKEA or Howdens, they will supply your hinges and drawer runners.

Our fronts are designed to work seamlessly with the IKEA METOD range. We can make doors, drawers and other panels to any size you require though, so just get in touch to let us know what you need.

If you know you have an IKEA kitchen but aren’t exactly sure whether it is METOD or the now discontinued FAKTUM range, not to worry. If you look inside the cabinets, METOD cabinets with have two rows of drilled holes as opposed to FAKTUM cabinets which will only have one row. Although our panels have been designed to work with the METOD range, do still get in touch with your sizes and we will be able to help you with your order.

Unfortunately we can only currently offer our products within the UK and do not ship internationally.

Yes! We often supply doors for PAX wardrobes, drawer fronts for Godmorgon bathroom vanities and all kinds of bespoke joinery solutions too. Our designers will be able to talk you through the process of including these in your order and what information we require.

No problem. We can make doors to any size based on dimensions provided to us. Get in touch with us and let us know what you need. Please refer to our measuring guide if you are looking to measure up your whole kitchen.

We are not. We have no affiliation with IKEA or Howdens in any way.

All of our products are made to order, our lead times are currently approx. 9-10 weeks from the point of production drawing sign-off. This does not account for any public holidays or Christmas closures, your designer will confirm an expected delivery date at time of order.

Once your panels are in production, we cannot guarantee that any changes can be made. All our products are made-to-order. As a result, any changes made after the order has been finalised may result in additional charges. Please see our Terms & Conditions for more information.

All our products are made-to-order, therefore no returns, cancellations or refunds can be accepted once an order has been confirmed.

We accept payment by BACS transfer and all major credit card providers. We do not take payment over the phone, all invoices will have a link to either pay by credit card or details of our account for BACS purposes.

We have a minimum order of £3,000 + VAT. This excludes delivery, appliances, worktops and any hardware.

As all our products are made-to-order and due to inherent efficiencies of scale, unfortunately making piecemeal panels is not something we can currently offer outside of a kitchen project. Of course, if you have placed an order with us previously and need an additional panel, we will always help.

We take a 50% deposit at the point of order confirmation, this payment can be made by credit card. The remaining balance invoice will be due 1 week before your order is ready for delivery, this can also be paid by credit card.

Once we have received final confirmation and sign-off for your order, we will provide an estimated delivery date based on our current lead times. We currently deliver on Wednesdays and Fridays (public holidays permitting). We do not offer a fast-tracking service as we believe it is only fair to provide our service on a first come, first serve basis.

Should you wish to delay the delivery of your order to a later date, please do let us know and we will do what we can to update our production schedules. If you choose to delay your delivery following notification that your order has been completed, storage charges may be applicable. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Our orders are delivered same-day from our workshop in the East Midlands. We will confirm your order is on track for the estimated delivery date at least one week before. The day before your agreed delivery date, we will provide an ETA window of a few hours. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm these ETAs any earlier due to delivery vehicle booking requirements, please let us know as soon as possible if you know there may be an issue receiving your delivery outside of certain hours.

Please make sure you or your nominated site contact is at the delivery address on the day of delivery. Please note that all our orders are kerbside deliveries, meaning the order will not be taken inside by the driver. Please ensure there is help at hand as products can be very large and heavy.

When your driver delivers your order, please check the delivery against the delivery note to check all items are present. Any missing items or damaged packaging must be noted on the delivery note in the presence of the driver.

There is no need to open any packages in the presence of the driver, we recommend packages are opened by your installation team.

Please ensure you take photos of any damage to packaging and/or panels. Without images, we cannot guarantee we will be able to progress any claims. Please note that by fitting our products the condition of the items is deemed accepted. For more information, please see our Terms & Conditions.

For IKEA and Howdens doors, yes. Your doors will arrive with hinge pockets that work seamlessly with the hinges from your cabinetry supplier. If we are supplying fronts for cabinetry purchased elsewhere, your doors will arrive ‘blank’ and your installer will need to drill these in during install.

If you have ordered handles from us, yes. We offer handles and knobs by Swarf and Armac Martin, two great UK-based manufacturers. If you choose to order their handles through us, your doors will arrive with the pilot holes for the handle placement. If you have chosen to purchase handles elsewhere, no problem, your fronts will arrive ‘blank’ and your installer will need to drill the holes as normal during install.

The thicknesses depend on the specification of your panels. All standard panels are between 18mm and 20mm thick. Please contact the team for more information. Our doors and drawer fronts are slightly thicker than standard IKEA or Howdens doors, so do bear this in mind when planning your worktop.

Our fronts do work with integrated appliances, yes! Doors for integrated appliances will come without hinge holes and handle pilots regardless of the cabinetry supplier for your kitchen. This allows you to utilise any system advised by your appliance manufacturer to install the door to your integrated appliance. If you have any questions, get in touch with our team.

Our fronts are fitted in the same way as you would fronts from IKEA or Howdens. Any fitter familiar with these systems will have no trouble installing your HØLTE fronts. For plinths, you will need to make sure you have the METOD legs as part of your kitchen order. These legs will come with clips that can be fixed onto your HØLTE plinth for installation. If you have any questions whatsoever during your install, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Please see our comprehensive care guide for information on how to look after your HØLTE kitchen fronts for years to come.

We offer a 10-year warranty on our cabinetry & internal storage and a 3-year warranty on our fronts. Any fronts installed on an appliance or in a bathroom are not covered. For more information please see our Terms & Conditions.

We can flex our service to suit your project and appointment however works best. We have established strong relationships with a number of architects and designers over the years, and are adept at both working to resolve early-stage layouts or from detailed construction drawings. We have a dedicated trade portal that provides more information on our process with trade partners. Head to business.holte.studio to request access.

We can also supply joinery in other areas of the home, helping to ensure cohesion throughout your project. Our designers’ knowledge of how to combine proprietary furniture (such as IKEA or Howdens) with our own bespoke range allows our clients to achieve a beautiful bespoke joinery finish throughout their home while remaining accessible for a range of budgets.
